Social Media Content Gathering

successful content is:

Visual

  • Both videos and stills
  • Get creative with boomerangs, selfie-videos, etc.

Timely

  • Capture events, booths, staff, conferences, presentations, etc.

Cross Promoted

  • Use an athlete’s phone and have them post

Authentic

  • It doesn’t have to be perfect!
Amy Kublin at USA Weightlifting
Matt Fedoruk at Parapans 2019

How do we get it?

  • Before the presentation/event, ask athletes if they would like to show their support for clean sport or another topic on social media (theirs and/or ours.) Discuss content ideas and offer photos/quotes if they don’t want to do video.
  • During the presentation/event, ask athletes to raise hand if they would like to be on USADA social media; connect with them afterwards
  • Connect with lingering participants after presentation/event
  • Before or after presentation, liaise with your contact to identify and connect with people who might want to participate

Quick Guidelines

Steadying Your Shots

Press or lock your arms at your sides to steady shots when interviewing another person.

Framing

Frame the subject in the center of the shot and leave about 5% headroom.

Lighting

Avoid excessive backlight.

Sound

For sound, ideally position the camera’s microphone 2-3 feet from the speaker(s).

Length

Try to keep all videos under 30 seconds max.
