USADA Announces 2000 Fourth Quarter Testing Information

The United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) performed 458 doping control tests during the fourth quarter of 2000, USADA Executive Director Terry Madden announced Wednesday.

USADA, which began operations on Oct. 2, 2000, is the independent testing agency for Olympic sports in the United States, and is responsible for managing the testing and adjudication process for U.S. Olympic, Pan Am, and Paralympic athletes. USADA is equally dedicated to preserving the integrity of sport through research initiatives and educational programs.

One hundred and sixty-three tests were no advance notice (NAN) tests done between October and December 2000, while the remaining 295 tests were in-competition tests completed during that same three-month period.

Six of the 458 tests were found to have adverse laboratory findings. Among those half dozen test findings are four adverse laboratory findings for athletes that had prior notification records for the use of salbutamol (anabolic agent) and one case for detection of a stimulant in an international athlete, which has been referred to the responsible international federation. The final case is under review by USADA.

The detection of a banned substance may or may not be ruled a doping violation.

The breakdown of tests can be found following this release. USADA will announce its test findings four times annually.
