Following a successful partnership for the FIFA Club World Cup 2025™ last year, FIFA and the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) are thrilled to announce an expanded partnership for the FIFA World Cup 2026™, reinforcing a shared commitment to fair play during one of the largest sporting events in history. The collaboration comes amid an unprecedented era of global sport hosted in the United States, often referred to as a “mega-decade” of major international events.
“This kind of international partnership between like-minded organizations is absolutely critical to ensuring that clean athletes have access to a level playing on a world stage like the FIFA World Cup 2026,” said USADA CEO Travis T. Tygart. “With the tournament set to bring the world’s best players to U.S., we are honored to help deliver a strong, transparent anti-doping program that players and fans can trust.”
Under the new agreement, USADA will support FIFA’s anti-doping program across the United States, including sample collection and coordination efforts before and during the tournament, which will involve 48 teams competing from June 11 to July 19, 2026.
“Major international events require strong partnerships,” said Emilio García Silvero, FIFA’s Chief Legal & Compliance Officer. “By working with USADA, we are strengthening our global anti-doping efforts and reinforcing FIFA’s commitment to fair and clean competition.”
As part of this partnership, a USADA Doping Control Officer will be assigned to assist FIFA DCOs at every in-competition mission conducted in the U.S., supporting consistent, high-quality sample collection in line with the FIFA Anti-Doping Regulations, the World Anti-Doping Code, and all applicable international standards.
In addition to in-competition testing, the program will feature a significant increase in out-of-competition testing in the lead-up to the tournament, along with expanded testing coverage across a broader pool of participating teams training and competing on U.S. soil.
USADA and FIFA have extensive experience delivering anti-doping programs for major international events. This partnership builds on that expertise while supporting FIFA’s global anti-doping framework.
As preparations continue for the FIFA World Cup 2026™, USADA and FIFA will work closely to implement a comprehensive testing program designed to protect clean athletes and the integrity of the sport.
