William Bock III is the new General Counsel for the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA). Bock has served as an outside counsel to USADA over the past seven years and has substantial experience in athletic drug testing matters.
“Bill shares our commitment to protecting the rights of America’s clean athletes to compete on a level playing field and to the importance of ethical decision-making to achieve the Olympic ideals,” said USADA Chief Executive Officer Travis T. Tygart. “Clean athletes can be assured that Bill will do his utmost to preserve the integrity of competition that they value, and to deter those actions that tarnish the glory of sport.”
As a partner at Kroger, Gardis & Regas, LLP in Indianapolis, Indiana, and chairman of its sports law practice group, Bock has devoted a significant portion of his legal practice to issues involving amateur and professional athletes and has represented numerous elite athletes in matters involving their right to compete in protected competitions, including the Olympic Games. Bock has also represented USADA in prosecutions of athletes accused of violating sports drug testing rules.
Bock has extensive experience litigating cases in state and federal courts and before arbitration tribunals. During 2004-2006 he also served as Parliamentarian to the Indiana House of Representatives.
“Performance-enhancing drugs strip athletic competition of the thrill of victory and add shame and serious potential health risks to the sting of defeat,” said Bock. “I look forward to this new opportunity to support USADA’s mission of protecting clean athletes and promoting pure competition.”
Bock earned his juris doctorate degree cum laude at the University of Michigan Law School. He is also a summa cum laude graduate of Oral Roberts University.
