Statement from United States Anti-Doping Agency Chief Executive Officer Travis T. Tygart in response to ratification of the UNESCO Anti-Doping Convention by the Senate and approval by President George W. Bush:

President Bush and the United States Senate are to be congratulated for their commitment to the integrity of international sport and the health of our nation’s athletes. As our U.S. Olympians prepare to compete in Beijing, President Bush’s action Monday, confirming U.S. commitment to the International Convention Against Doping in Sport makes a particularly timely statement.

Ratifying this convention sends a powerful message that the U.S. is dedicated to global harmonization of anti-doping initiatives in an effort to level the international playing field, and that the U.S. will continue to champion the ideals of healthy, fair competition.

In serving its mission to preserve the well being of Olympic sport as well as the integrity of competition, and to ensure the health of all athletes, USADA works proactively through multiple programs including out of competition, no-advance notice testing, in-competition testing, collaboration with law enforcement agencies, and worldwide networking with anti-doping entities, to identify and adjudicate those who would attempt to undermine clean sport.

USADA is responsible for the testing and results management process for athletes in the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Movement. USADA is equally dedicated to preserving the integrity of sport through research initiatives and educational programs.
