Here’s a great question we occasionally receive at USADA about, “What is cell or gene doping?” On the WADA Prohibited List, cell or gene doping is defined as the non-therapeutic use of genes, genetic  elements, or cells that have the capacity to enhance athletic performance. More simply put, gene doping is the attempt to alter our genetic makeup in the hopes of enhancing performance. Gene doping carries with it pretty extreme risks to our health, such as cancer and auto immune responses that could even lead to death.
