Hey everyone, here’s a common question that we get frequently from athletes about TUEs. “How will I know if I need to have a TUE for my prescribed medication?” The first step in applying for a TUE is determining whether the medication you’re using is actually prohibited. There’s an awesome resource called Global DRO that you can go to find the status, the prohibited status of the particular medication. If you determine that it is prohibited, either at all times or in-competition, the next step is to go to the USADA TUE page. From there, you can get more information about how to apply for a TUE based on your competition level. And we have a TUE Pre-Check Form that you can use in order to directly contact a USADA team member and get feedback as to whether you need a TUE in advance, or you can apply for a TUE retroactively. There’s additional factors that you can find out based on your particular medical condition as well, that can play into that TUE application process, and submitting a complete TUE.
