Hi, I’m Tammy Hanson, Director of Elite Education. I’m here to answer some commonly asked questions in the field from athletes and athlete support personnel. So, let’s jump right in. The first question is, “Once I retire from sport, can I stil compete in events? Will I be tested anymore?” That’s a great question. So, generally speaking, when an athlete officially retires, they are more than welcome to still compete in regional events, local events, age group competitions, and master’s level competitions. However, if they do choose to compete in a national or an international event in an open division, then they would have to officially unretire from sport and they need to do that at least six months in advance. Of course, if any of those other competitions I mentioned did have drug testing, then athletes would still be subject to drug testing even after retirement.
