From May 27-31, 2014, the American College of Sports Medicine held its 61st annual meeting in Orlando Florida. USADA’s Science Director, Matthew Fedoruk was on hand to present a tutorial lecture, titled New Frontiers against Doping in Sport: Challenging the Omertà.

Matt’s lecture covered important scientific topics including the biological passport, and changes that science is undergoing and must face in the fight for clean competition. He discussed the importance of  anti-doping science in shifting some of its focus including examining the biological effect of prohibited substances on the body as opposed to only merely detecting their presence.

The discussion also focused on the role of healthcare professionals in anti-doping, changes to anti-doping rules that effect doctors and trainers, and the importance of clean athletes standing up and having their voice heard.
